Shravan brings in freshness, celebration and various festivals. Dahi Handi is one such festival we all eagerly wait for and is welcomed with full enthusiasm. The festival is celebrated on the second day of Gokulashtami, the birth of Lord Krishna – the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. In 2017, Dahi Handi will be celebrated on August 15. The trend of celebration goes back to the time when Lord Krishna as a child with the help of his friends used to break pots of butter that were hung from the ceiling by his mother and other women in Gokul. Thus, even today enthusiastic youths relive the mischief and pranks played by Lord Krishna by forming human pyramids to reach a pot that is located at a considerable height. With Dahi Handi round the corner, let’s take a look at the popular Mumbai Dahi Handis of yesteryear.
